not sure how many people go clinic'ing
but if you have!
say who you've seen here!!
and say your favourite one and why and all the jazzzzzzz
i've been toooo.. Tomous Lang, and Zoro
and i prefered the funky dude Zoro
it was a looooonng time ago though.. so i can't remember any specific reasons, just the general feel of them
Tomous Lang the Monsterised-Machine-powered-Austrian-Man-Monster-Drummer, was quite.. well .... i said it all there
hugely technical and just a bit.....out of reach of anything any HUMAN could possibly play
which isn't good!
buuuut that can be good in small doses!

I've only been to Adrian Erlandsson's drum clinic back in whenever it was. Where I now live isn't really the sort of place that has them.
It was at that clinic that I fell in love with the sound of his AAX 18" chinese. And, I now own a 17" one
Was a reasonably interesting time, though _________________ Capt

A lot of what he said reinforced what I already believed would be the case [at this point, I'd been drumming 6-7 months, max], but there was a few comments here and there that I felt would be dangerous for some learning drummers. Although, for the life of me, I can't remember them now.
Most of it just made me wish I'd been able to start drumming at a much younger age. _________________ Capt

This is My Point Exactly Capt.
It just makes You Wish You'd Started Playing Younger>>>
QUITE >>> What the F*** does THAT Achieve
It takes a VERY SPECIAL Drummer & Human Being to Put oN a GREAT Drum Clinic...........if there even IS such a Thing

The reason for my wishing I'd started younger is because I had more time and energy back then to be able to throw myself into drums.
Now, I just don't have the free time I really need to practice - and it's going to get less once I get myself a job again.
So, if I'd started younger, I'd be at a more advanced stage, and my practices wouldn't be as much to advance as to keep fresh.
If you get me. _________________ Capt

How the heck did I miss this topic?
I'm beyond lucky to live on the 'eastside' of the Seattle area, within proximity of Donn Bennett's Drum Studio, where pretty much anybody who's a drummer will show up sooner or later. Donn knows absolutely everybody, and must be one heck of a pitchman, because he can sure get them into his place. I try to never miss a clinic. Even though they're just about all way over my head, I always come away with something new. And just the opportunity to see these amazing people in action a few feet away is brilliant.
Of course I have to list among my favorites my heroes, Kenny Aronoff (my first ever clinic), Cindy Blackman, and Billy Ward (twice!) ... but the absolute very best was the entire rhythm section from the Bette Midler tour ... I only remember Taku Hirano was the percussionist, don't remember anybody else's names, but it was like watching a bunch of friends jam in somebody's living room. They were loving it, because on tour they don't get much chance to do that.
There was also an Alan White clinic, followed by a rehearsal by his band White, that we were invited to sit in on ... very cool watching the dynamics (and discovering that other than the level of playing, rehearsal was pretty much like with my own band!).
Most recently was Johnny Rabb, who is amazing ... but as happens often with me, I was totally distracted from the drums by something else, this time being the guitarist he brought along (Paul Allen) who was phenomenal.
I gave up on Masters Classes after an unfortunate one with David Garibaldi, who was apparently having a very bad day. He was rude, boring, and was so busy telling us how great he is that he never got around to actually teaching anything. A complete waste of time and money. _________________ ************
